Ready? Okay! Cheerleaders arrive in Dublin to spread cheer ahead of Aer Lingus Football Classic

Bring it on! Cheerleaders from Northwestern University and University of Nebraska traveled to Dublin today to drum up excitement ahead of tickets going on sale for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 29th April and are available via ticketmaster.ie/touchdowndublin.

Both sets of cheerleaders were on hand to give punters a taste of what they can expect when Northwestern University’s Wildcats face off against the University of Nebraska’s Cornhuskers on August 27th in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. They demonstrated spectacular routines and spirited chants, all of which helped build excitement for the big game.

Cheerleaders are instrumental when it comes to creating a vibrant game day atmosphere, helping to support the team, keep morale up and foster a connection between players and fans. As ambassadors for their universities, they are expected to be model students, and many are involved in other sports, extracurricular activities and leadership positions. They are also incredibly talented athletes as demonstrated on the Netflix smash hit series Cheer!

In Ireland, cheerleading has experienced a surge in popularity and is now regarded as one of the fastest growing youth sports in the country. This weekend, Team Ireland will be competing at the Cheerleading World 2022 competitions which will take place in Orlando, Florida at the ESPN World Wide Sports Complex!

This year’s Aer Lingus College Football Classic will take place on Saturday 27th August  in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. The highly anticipated clash between Northwestern University (Wildcats) and University of Nebraska (Cornhuskers) will mark the first time either of these two titans of college football have ever played in Ireland and they will be bringing their cheer squad and marching bands with them to ensure the full American Football gameday experience at the Aviva.

In what represents a major coup for both Dublin and Irish fans of American football, the Week Zero fixture will open the 2022 College Football Season.

American football fans from the US and Europe have booked to travel to Ireland for the 2022 game. With American football skyrocketing in popularity in Ireland, it is expected to also draw a large crowd of Irish fans. It is estimated that it will generate a whopping €63m for the Irish economy. Moreover, the game is expected to garner a live US TV audience of 3 million viewers.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 29th April and are available through Ticketmaster.
