Iowa State University is a program flying high! Coming off the back of the back of their most successful football season in the schools history. Off the field, the excitement is building too. Irish fans can expect an unforgettable game day experience from the Cyclones mix of mascot, band and cheer when they touch down in Dublin for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic!

Iowa State University is a program on the rise. Fans in Ames, Iowa are currently witnessing one of the most exciting times in the school's history! The mix of stellar on field performances, record attendances and growing confidence in their ability to become the best team within the Big 12 Conference set up. The 2023/24 season is one that will go down in history for the Cyclones. 10 regular season wins as well as a Pop-Tarts Bowl win against the Miami Hurricanes. Ames and Iowa State University are both renowned for their backgrounds in farming and agriculture. During a visit to Iowa State University last November, our 2025 Game Ambassador Ian Madigan asked fans to describe the Iowa State fanbase in three words. - “Hardworking” was the answer that came to light time and time again and this trait is certainly mirrored in the current playing roster.

Iowa State football are attracting eyes through their record setting on field performances, another hugely impressive element that makes the program so special is the atmosphere generated by their loyal fanbase. Starting with fan favourite Cy the Cardinal. No conversation about Iowa State Football would be complete without mentioning the beloved mascot. Sporting his distinctive cardinal red and gold feathers along with his enthusiastic demeanour, Cy is a symbol of the pride Cyclone fans have in their team as he embodies the schools tradition. Alongside Cy, there is the Iowa State Cheer team, the heartbeat of the collegiate game day atmosphere. These athletes are more than just performers, they have the important job of creating excitement on the sidelines throughout the game. Whether it’s leading fan chants or performing breathtaking stunts, the cheerleaders know how to keep fans engaged! Iowa State University and college football as a whole is much more than a game. The combination of fans, cheer and mascot working in harmony, is undoubtedly increasing the lure of the sport year in year out!
What’s next for Iowa State
After their most successful season within the school’s history just passing, the task of topping that might seem out of reach for some looking from the outside in. Not for Matt Campbell and his team, they are looking to pick up from where they left off in this upcoming campaign. “It doesn’t matter where you're ranked, where you’re at, what you’re doing, it’s how do you have humility? How do you learn? How do you grow? I think at the end of the day, we want to be out best at the end of the season” . It’s this sort of winners mentality that has garnered attention from many of the top teams within the NFL. With Sports Illustrated reporting Coach was expected to interview for the recent Chicago Bears vacancy, with other reports suggesting he turned down an 8-year, $61.5 million offer for the Detroit Lions back in 2021. The only important thing for Cyclone fans now is that Coach is still there and will be leading them into their Aer Lingus College Football Classic Week Zero Matchup.
