A staple of American collegiate sports, Cheerleaders and Mascots contribute significantly to the overall gameday experience! Regularly referred to as the 'heartbeat of the crowd,' cheerleaders drive fans' excitement with their ability to begin fan chants, produce synchronized performances, and show incredible athleticism and skill.
Both of the 2025 Aer Lingus College Football Classic teams, K-State and Iowa State are renowned for their cheer squads as well as their energetic mascots. We were lucky enough to have some members of their squads along with Mascots Willie the Wildcat and Cy in town to promote this year's game! Here is a glimpse of what we got up to.
On Day 1, we headed down to surprise shoppers of Kildare Village. Just a 40-minute drive from Dublin Airport, located within County Kildare's rolling countryside, Kildare Village is home to more than 120 boutiques! Both K-State and Iowa State cheer teams attracted crowds as people gathered to watch them perform their fight songs along with the school's traditional ballots. We even fitted in some time to shop around the boutiques from homegrown Irish and international luxury brands. It was rest time after Kildare Village and both cheer teams took the opportunity to tour Dublin City by foot, taking in the sights and atmosphere ahead of a busy few days.
Aviva Stadium
Whilst in Dublin, we took the cheer teams to the European Home of College Football and also the stadium where their football teams will kick off the 2025 season, the Aviva Stadium. First reactions were priceless; all were shocked by the size and scale of the modern Dublin stadium. We got started with a full photography shoot and moved into meeting some industry friends who had the opportunity to meet and talk with the Cheerleaders as well as create some fun promotional content! Belle Azzure, Talkin Balls, and Mark Horgan from PFI Ireland brought their creativity through dance routines, sketches, and Irish quizzes!
Dancing with Dublin City Council
When our time at the Aviva Stadium was up, we wanted to make some noise in the City Centre! Working with Dublin City Council and their 'Dublin City Council St.Patricks Festival Treasure Hunt', we took over Baranardo's Square, drawing crowds as both cheer teams performed.
Meet and Greet with the Lord Mayor of Dublin
Next up we introduced the cheer group to Emma Carlin, the new Lord Mayor of Dublin and a huge fan of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic and the benefits it brings to the city. Emma kindly gave up her time to speak with the group who were intrigued to learn more about the Lord Mayors role and the history of the position.
TV and Radio Appearances
The evening consisted of media appearances as a member from each cheer team appeared on Today FM’s Ray Foley show speaking about, the intricacies of cheerleading, and the excitement of coming to Ireland this August for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic!
Next up was an appearance on Virgin Media's Six O'Clock Show with Brian Dowling and Katja Mia. The two cheer teams had a cheer-off on National TV and undoubtedly captured the attention of the country with their breathtaking stunts and ability to perform on the live stage. Check out their Performance below.
Dinner was Fire
We finished up a jam packed day with dinner at the renowned FIRE Steakhouse restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Dublin city centre. With full and satisfied bellies, the group headed back to Clayton Hotel to rest up ahead of another busy day to come.
Uber Cheer
We kicked off Day three with ‘Uber Cheer’ - surprising lucky customers with an exciting cheer performance from our teams. Our first stop was to Marconi house, the home of Bauer Media. Our teams and mascot burst into the working offices to surprise staff with cheer routines and stunts to start their day. Shortly after, we went to St.Patrick's GNS Hollypark to surprise their primary school students! Flocks of children gathered to watch the K-State and Iowa State Cheer Teams perform their famed chants, stunts and traditions. An exciting morning for all showcasing a glimpse of the razzmatazz and excitement of game week.
Guinness Storehouse
When in Ireland, we had to introduce the team to one of Dublin’s most famous landmarks: the Guinness Storehouse. The team formed a line in front of the famous St.James Gate, fitting in time to take a personalized tour too.
Aer Lingus
In the early evening of day three, we introduced K-State and Iowa State cheer to our title sponsors! Visiting Terminal 2 in the Airport, the Aer Lingus team were delighted to capture photography with the teams. There was even a live cheer-off right at the entrance to Terminal 2 with eager travelers keen to show off their cheer skills!
Twisters Elite
Our final trip stop was to Swords, where we met some of Ireland's most talented Cheerleaders at Twisters Elite. The K-State and Iowa State cheer team showcased their skills before teaching some of their cheers. The Irish cheerleaders of all ages then showed off their own skills impressing the US veterans with the high level of standard and commitment! While Cheer isn't a mainstay in Irish sports yet, it was clear from that visit that the standard is still extremely high on the Emerald Isle and will no doubt continue to grow.
This whirlwind of a trip showcased a glimpse of the excitement and razzmatazz that you can expect to see and experience across game week and why the Aer Lingus College Football Classic is #MuchMoreThanAGame.
