5. Jump Around - Wisconsin

One of the most iconic and electrifying traditions in college sports is the Jump Around at the University of Wisconsin. It’s more than just a fun activity; it’s a ritual that defines the energy and enthusiasm of Badger Nation. Every home football game at Camp Randall Stadium, the stadium comes alive with the unmistakable beat of House of Pain’s “Jump Around.” As the song pulses through the speakers, 80,000 fans, students, alumni, and even visiting supporters — rise to their feet, and the entire stadium begins to jump in unison. The effect is incredible, creating a rumble in the stands can be heard throughout the city.

4. Ralphie’s Run - Colorado Buffalo’s

At the University of Colorado, few traditions inspire as much excitement and pride as Ralphie’s Run. Ralphie, a massive and powerful buffalo, is an unforgettable sight. Before every home football game, she’s released onto the field, running at full speed along the sidelines, with a team of student runners guiding her along the way. As Ralphie charges down the field, the roar of the crowd creates an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. It’s a moment that never fails to get fans on their feet, ready for the game to begin.

3. Howards Rock - Clemson

There are few entrances in college football that match the energy of the Clemson Tigers legendary run down the hill. Right before kickoff, the team gets off the bus and groups at the top of Death Valley, touching Howard’s Rock. The rock was brought from Death Valley, California and placed at the top of the hill in the Tigers stadium. Rubbing the rock pre game is said to bring good luck and adds to the 60+ year long tradition. Once they have done so, the team and coaching staff charge down the hill to the sound of 85,000 fans cheering.

Dubbed ‘the most exciting 25 seconds in college football’, Clemson’s electric pregame tradition is right up there with the best traditions in college football.

2. Osceola and Renegade – FSU

One of Florida State University’s most recognisable football traditions is the pregame appearance of Osceola and Renegade. Since 1978, a student dressed as the Seminole leader Osceola has charged into Doak Campbell Stadium on horseback, carrying a spear and planting it at midfield before kickoff. The horse, Renegade, is a well-trained Appaloosa, and the moment has become a staple of FSU’s game day experience .For many, Osceola and Renegade represent tradition, pride, and the start of each home game in a uniquely FSU way.

In 2024, we welcomed FSU to Ireland for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, but unfortunately, Renegade wasn’t a fan of flying…

Video shows the stadium physically shaking when the 65,000 Virginia Tech fans are all jumping and singing in unison. It's no wonder that Lane Stadium is right up there with one of the toughest places to play in college football.

College Football Traditions Make the Game

College football traditions are part of what makes the sport so unique. They create a sense of community and belonging and are a way for fans to demonstrate their pride and support for their teams. Whether it's the "Ralphie’s Run" at Colorado, the "sprint down the hill" at Clemson, or ‘Enter Sandman’ at Virginia Tech, each school has developed their own unique traditions that play to their fanbase, showcase school history and differentiate each university from another. These traditions go beyond the game itself and create lasting memories and rituals for generations of fans to come.
